We’re doing something a little different this year, and adding turkeys to our Christmas offering.

These aren’t just any turkeys, they’re 3 gold star Great Taste Award turkeys coming from Meadow Brook Farm in East Sussex. I sat next to Will Sheffield at the Sussex Peasant Autumn Supper, and by the end of the evening I knew we’d like to sell his turkeys for Christmas.

Will grew up with turkeys. His dad first reared them back in 1950 and he plucked his first at the age of nine. He told us all about the three gold stars his free range bronze turkey won at the Great Taste Awards in 2025, which put it in a group of fewer than 280 products out of nearly 15,000 entries. The judges called it “the perfect storm of a turkey”, and after hearing how he rears them, I can see why.

The way Will farms sits very close to the way we like to do things here at Trenchmore. His birds are a slow growing breed and take around six months to mature. They start life under heat for the first four weeks, then are gradually introduced to the outdoors until they spend every daylight hour out on herb rich pasture. At night they are shut into deep straw bedded housing, which keeps them safe from predators. The whole farm runs off grid on solar power and its own borehole water. It’s a family farm in the Sussex Weald that clearly cares about doing things properly, and you can taste the time that has gone into these birds.

We have a range of sizes available, so there’s one to suit a small table or a full house. Your turkey will be ready to collect from us at Trenchmore on either Sunday 20th 11-4pm (when the taproom is open) or Wednesday 23rd December 11-4pm (collection only).

Small 4.5-4.9kg - 4 people £80

Medium 6.0-6.9kg - 8 people £95

Large 8-9kg - 12 people £105

All turkeys boxed, wrapped in greaseproof paper printed with cooking instructions and supplied with giblets.
